My name is Sloane Hanley and I truly believe all students can be successful if provided the right tools, academic strategies, and ongoing support.
I earned my Bachelor’s of Arts degree from the University of Connecticut. As an undergraduate student, I supported peers placed on academic probation and began to understand the many difficulties students face that impact their academic success. After graduating, I attended the University of South Carolina where I worked in career services while earning my Master’s of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs. This experience showed how I can help to impact post-graduation success by helping students on an individual basis. I then continued to support students while working at the UConn centralized academic support center. In this role, I taught courses for students on probation, met individually with students with varied academic standings, and created many workshops surrounding academic success.
Currently, I am helping students to be successful and achieve their academic and personal goals while serving as a Retention Advisor at Johns Hopkins University. In this role, I help students create individualized plans for graduation while ensuring they maintain high levels of coursework. My favorite part of this job is discovering how to implement different success strategies in a unique manner for each student.
I pride myself on providing holistic support for each student by catering each strategy for the unique student I am working alongside. Success with Sloane is about providing the strategies while serving as a cheerleader when a student succeeds and a problem solver when things do not go as planned.
I am married to my college sweetheart and living in Maryland despite being a born-and-bred New Englander. In my spare time, I am very busy entertaining and taking care of my one-year old daughter. I also enjoy FaceTiming with my nephew (4) and niece (2), cooking new recipes, and finding the best pizza slice in the area.
